You are coming to me for coaching. Be ready. I will ask you to do things that may seem “uncomfortable” to you. If you’ve been used to sitting on your couch for hours watching Netflix and eating junk food, then be ready for some changes.
Your body is in its current state because of your habits. Know this isn’t about judgment. It just is what it is.
As we improve your habits, so will your body.
Boot Camp in Altadena, CA
Look back at last week.
How much time did you invest in yourself? Prepping healthy meals, exercising, hydrating, getting enough sleep?
Compare that to how much time you wasted on social media, endless news updates, Netflix, and alcohol.
Did you make progress?
If not, make changes.
I just posted a video summarizing my daily activities on my social media channels.

Self care…
Spending time on myself, whether training or eating right, has been in my nature since my late teens.
When life is stressful or out of balance, I check on how I care for myself. I look at sleep, recovery, training, and diet.
There's no magic formula.
Just look at your life, review the critical areas, and improve.
Make an effort.
The always adored “Deck of Cards” Workout
Today's "Deck of Cards" workout was a little different and definitely challenged my clients. Today I inserted jogging in place of burpees.
I want to create fun, safe, effective, and challenging workouts when designing sessions. My goal is that clients get the most out of their 45 minutes with me while improving their health and ability to accept life's challenges.
How do you challenge yourself? Are you moving enough? What will it take for you to commit to improving yourself?
It's YOU who decides.
If you need a little push and encouragement, join us.
The July classes start this Monday.
We meet on the border of Pasadena and Altadena.

Hiking with my son, Colby Canyon
I’ve written about this before as I believe that it’s essential.
Exercise is challenging in a good way, but it is uncomfortable for many people. To maintain the habit of exercise, which is the goal, you must have a definite reason to push yourself.
My reasons have changed over the years. These days my goals have shifted more towards longevity. I have a family, including a grandson, that I want to enjoy for many years.
Please take some time for yourself to commit to an exercise program.
Strip away the noise and distractions.
Commit to more activity and better eating.
Calendar of Events:
June 15
Construction starts at school. Training will continue at the school, but parking and where we train may vary.
July 4th

Poas, Costa Rica
You want to achieve great results and goals, but how do you measure your progress?
Review your week. How many days/minutes did you train? How was your effort?
And how about your eating? How many meals/days brought you closer to your goals?
My routine is that if I've eaten well and completed all my training during the week, I typically have one cheat meal and take Sunday off from all training.
What is your routine? Is it working for you?
If you aren't making progress towards your goals, change. Your body and mind will thank you.
Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica
I'm back from a week in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 and ready for our June Boot Camp.
I'm grateful for my habit of training, as I was able to put in some great hikes by the Arenal Volcano. Being able to ask my body to perform and respond to everything I want to do is a gift. I often wonder about others who, because of poor health and poor fitness, cannot do all they want. I feel sorry for them.
Are you at the level of fitness where you feel you can do all you want? If not, please do not waste another day hoping for change.
You must commit to action and improvement.
It's my goal to help guide and push you toward your personal goals.
Join me for personal training or my boot camp classes.

I see this with clients who put in consistent work with their training and nutrition. It’s math like Kobe says.
Focus on being consistent and it pays off.
There is a lot of talk lately, with many people touting how helpful A.I. will be. In contrast, I believe that physical training with others is very helpful. Actual support, interaction, and going through some difficulty together are healthy.
Coming to the boot camps is a great way to stay accountable and help fellow boot campers stick to their programs.
As a trainer, I have fun seeing you all chat, laugh and support each other.
We need human encouragement and human support.
An A.I. bot does not understand your challenges, nor does it have any empathy for you. It may tell you that you must consistently eat and train, but it cannot be the example. You need to know that it is possible as an average human to eat right and get in training day after day, week after week, and so on.
I've been posting more videos of my daily activities. I'm surprised and grateful that many people find some inspiration in them. It's hard for me to post as it's just what I do. But maybe my habits will inspire you to be more consistent.

And why do I choose this breakfast?
I eat according to what I have planned for the day. I have a busy morning with one-on-one clients till about 1 pm, so I need a big breakfast that will sustain me through my normal lunch.
I won’t lift this morning, so my meal is slightly lighter. On days I lift, I would have a little more protein, probably a date or 2, and some honey.
It’s about eating to provide sufficient nutrients and fuel. Sufficient but not more.
Find and journal to see what works for you.
Take notes. Do you feel energized after your meal? Is your mind sharp? Do you feel full/satisfied? Do your choices bring you closer to your weight goals?
Adjust as necessary till you find your optimal meals.
Boxing is back in April
Welcome to April already.
If the rain has paused your training, I encourage you to make time for your health and exercise this month.
Be honest with yourself. How much time and money do you invest in your health?
Time:
If you were to share your calendar with me, how many minutes per day, week, or month have you spent on exercise? How consistent are you?
( I offer classes M-F all mornings and all evenings. I encourage you to commit to Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Tuesday and Thursday as a simple way to put it into your schedule, but you can come any weekday to fit in your exercise.)
If you are spending your time on something other than your health and exercise, where are you spending it? Social Media, the news? Who controls your life, and where do you invest your time?
Get real.
"You'll build your confidence through relentless practice rather than mere hopefulness."
Money:
Where do you invest your money? Do you invest in healthy foods or junk foods? Soda? Alcohol? This isn't about judgment. Your body will respond to the inputs it receives.
I care deeply about how people spend their time. So many people live as if there is "always tomorrow."
Do something today. Move forward towards a healthier commitment to yourself and your family.
"The smallest of actions is always better than the noblest of intentions."
Note that this month, I will be bringing back partner exercises. So we will be doing boxing again. It's been a long time.
I hope to see you this month.

I feel so much happier when I keep things simple.
I participated in a nutrition and training program that had me counting calories and doing hour-long multi-exercises and multi-set workouts. This plan would have brought good results, but the time associated with entering all these details and devoting 60-90 minutes each day is unnecessary.
As you may know, I've been seriously weight training since I was about 13 years old. I'm now 57. That's almost 45 years of experimenting and taking notes on how my body responds to training and nutrition. I am always open to testing and encourage you to do the same. Try something and see how your body responds. Do you have more energy? Do you sleep better? Are your mood or stress levels better?
Record what you do, and refine. Do what works for you.
Here's an example of a simple breakfast. I throw everything together and check off many nutritional boxes in one swoop.
This morning's morning oatmeal consisted of organic, thick-cut oatmeal, frozen organic cherries, grass-fed whey protein powder, pecans, and a little shredded coconut.
Busy, faster, more information.
I've noticed that more and more of my clients are stressed and overwhelmed. In the little time I spend in my car commuting, I'm always struck by how so many are scrolling, texting, and looking as if hypnotized at their phones.
Be it people walking or driving, there is often a look of angst and longing for some reward as if more staring into the phone will somehow bring about better results.
So how does this connect to fitness or wellness, whatever you want to call it?
Spending more hours scrolling on social media posts will not yield faster results.
Be in control and more disciplined with what you ingest. Be it media or food. Get away from the noise and put in the hard work.
You know the basics that work.
Pay attention to getting the necessary sleep and recovery.
Eat well. Experiment, see what works best for your body, and refine and repeat.
Train smart. Train sufficiently to stimulate results.
Good Stuff
Kudos to my long-time client, Hazel, who is the only Monday, Wednesday, and Friday client to have 100% attendance since the beginning of the year. It hasn't been easy on some cold and rainy mornings, but she hasn't missed one.
And my second shout-out goes to Larry, who has lost almost 13 pounds in less than 2 months.
Lastly, check out Diana's before and after pictures. She lost 20 pounds at her own healthy pace.
Social Media Updates
I'm closing down my old Boot Camp Facebook Page and replacing it with a new Stephen Cooper Training Page. Boot Camp is a small part of my day, and I want to reflect on the other parts of my training, such as senior and online training.
Also, Melina will handle my social media posts, so I may not see your responses or questions. Email me directly if you need help or have questions.
Personal
The past 2 weekends, I've been taking canyoneering classes with my son. These are our first classes. It was overwhelming, plus a little terrifying. It's the first time I've repelled down anything.
Canyoneering Class, Stoney Point Park in Chatsworth
March Camps
It's a big month.
14 classes for $165 or
9 classes for $135
If you want to buy them class by class, it is $20 each.

Start Your Morning Off Right With Exercising Outdoors
Our 2023 Boot Camp classes will begin on January 3.
Please don't put off taking care of yourself. You know that exercise pays off in many ways, be it strength in dealing with the mental stress of today's busy lives, or improving your chances of fighting or reducing disease.
But this is your choice. You have to commit. You are worth it; no one else will do this for you.
Classes meet twice or three times per week, Monday - Friday.
I am flexible with which days you can attend, but be honest with yourself. Put these workouts into your calendar and show up.

End of 2022
I've decided to take the last week of 2022 off.
When it comes to the end of the year, I like to reflect and review. I want to study what went well and what didn't so that I can bring improvements to the new year.
I'll be spending time with my family and will spend minimal time online. Please be patient with text messages and emails.
Thank you so much for training with me this year.
I look forward to helping you in 2023.
Best,
Coop
Track Your Actions and Your Progress
For this first week of January 2023, I want you to set up a method to track your actions and progress.
Keep it simple and easy to note and review.
When it comes to exercise, eating, and sleeping, I've been tracking these ever since I began training at around age 13.
This was an entry from 17 years ago.
My methods have changed a lot over the years. I've used paper notebooks and blogs and now use Apple Notes.
Think of it as a personal improvement diary. You can add pictures and videos to your notes. Don't overthink this. Just do what helps you to record, review, and take the necessary actions to improve.
Assignment:
Set up a method to track your actions and progress. Take a picture and send it to me.
I often take a quick picture to note how much weight I used.
